Football in Michigan

Playoff Bound

If you are a fan of football in the state of Michigan, you are probably jumping for joy on this Monday morning. With reports surfacing today that San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh will become the next head coach at the University of Michigan, Michigan State playing Baylor in Cotton Bowl on New Years day and the Detroit Lions in the NFL playoffs, things are looking good! If you are a fan of the Lions or the Spartans, your team is still playing football and needs your support!

If you are planning on attending the Cotton Bowl or the Lions first playoff game in Dallas, we here at A&S RV Center have put together a list of fun things to do in Dallas, where both the Spartans and Lions will be playing January 1 and 4.

The Cotton Bowl

Game: Michigan State vs. Baylor

Time: 11:30 a.m. in AT&T Stadium

The cool thing about being a Spartan and Lions fans this week is that both of your teams will be playing their playoff games in the exact same place. That place is none other than one of the largest arenas in America, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Located just 20 minutes west of downtown Dallas, “Jerry World” as the arena is called is a brand new, state of the art facility with tons of features. For starters, it holds the worlds largest HDTV, which weighs 600 tons and is suspended above the field. If you don’t have the best of seats, you will have the worlds largest TV to make sure you don’t miss a second of the action! Inside the arena you will find that the arena is new, spotless and one of the most impressive in the world.

Pep Rally

For traveling Spartan fans there will be plenty of chances to get to mix with fans and alumni alike. Since the game is on New Year’s Day, New Year’s Eve will feature a get together at the House of Blues in downtown Dallas. Enjoy fireworks, an appearance from Sparty, food, drinks and more! For more scheduled activities, take a look at the Michigan State alumni network.

On gameday there will be plenty of tailgates to attend as well as your own to put on! If you are taking your RV to Dallas or plan on renting one, get to the game early to set up. With an early kickoff scheduled, it could be a rough new years morning, but the excitement of Spartan football should take over!

Detroit Lions Playoff Game

The Detroit Lions are back in the playoffs for the second time in 15 years. We know that this doesn’t happen often, so take advantage of it! With the loss to the Green Bay Packers this past Sunday, the Lions will play the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wildcard playoff round. After the Michigan State game on New Year’s Day, take a couple days to explore the city of Dallas before the Lions game on Sunday, January 4.

Here are some things to do in Dallas that might interest you:

  • Take a Tour of AT&T Stadium- If you don’t have that much time to explore the wonder that is AT&T Stadium, schedule a tour that will take you on an in-depth look at one of the finest stadiums in the country.
  • Klyde Warren Park- Amazing park for families, this park features an outdoor skating rink made of a synthetic rubber, plenty of unique food trucks and many play areas for dogs, families or really anyone!
  • Dealy Plaza- Visit a national monument of the assassination of JFK and relive one of the most shocking moments in American History.

On gameday take over the stadiums parking lot with Lions fans! The game is scheduled to take place at 3:40 p.m. so you should have plenty of time to tailgate, eat and converse with fellow Lions fans.
